Happenings

OK, I meant to write a long report about what happened on Monday, Tuesday and yesterday but as I have too much to write, I think I'll keep this a bit short.

On Sunday, I went for the National Science Quiz (Finals/National levels). It was held in the auditorium of Bahagian Teknologi Pendidikan next to the National Science Centre at Bukit Kiara. Results? We lost (and turned up as 3rd runners up). Nevertheless, it was still quite an achievement for us because this was the first time St. Michael's ever managed to get to the national levels in the quiz. This is the most interesting part. All the participants were shocked when they heard that we had to put on some make-up. Make-up for boys, too? Why? Well, it turned out to be that we are at the auditorium of TV Pendidikan also, and they had wanted to film or record this quiz. Need I say more that we appeared on TV? Too bad, though, it was not telecasted live. Still, it was a once in a lifetime experience for all of us. We had the chance to meet a few important people and one of the deputy ministers. Overall, the quiz was good but the organising was poor. Still, I don't want to comment on that.

Now, on Tuesday, our school principal, teachers and fellow classmates attended the class farewell party in Hillcity Hotel. We had a hi-tea buffet actually. I helped to do the organising by requesting for the quotation and confirmed the reservation. My monitor, Wong Sen Loong helped me to confirm the occasion. He also ordered a beautiful and nice cake for our beloved principal, who is going to retire soon. We sent the invitations to all the teachers who teach us and the principal (he was the star of the function). Out of the 13 teachers (including the principal) that we have invited, only about six came. But, ALL our classmates attended the farewell. Who would bear to miss it? We were at first worried that the principal wouldn't come, but thankfully he arrived a bit later than the appointed time. Well, what matters most that he was there! We took plenty of pictures, and I intend to put them up here later. We certainly had a great time.

Yesterday, who do you think I met? It was Irwin Ho. Boy, I was surprised! Firstly it was because he was there on a weekday. I didn't expect to see him until around Hari Raya (he is currently under nautical studies in Malacca). Secondly, his hair was very very short! As short as those you would expect from National Service trainees. He told me that he was on holiday until this Sunday. We had a chat for quite a long time outside the office (it was during recess time and we were there for almost a period after recess, without the adminstrators chasing me off!). Eventually, I made my way back to class.

OK, someone I know has even put up his marks in his blog. Looks like I need to do some "showing-off" (or more commonly known as "bragging") about my marks:
  1. Bahasa Melayu - 77 (2A) [Note: I tried so hard!]
  2. English - 95 (1A) [Note: That was really surprising, even for me.]
  3. Mathematics - 95 (1A) [Expected :-D]
  4. Additional Mathematics - 85 (1A) [No comment]
  5. Moral Education - 88 (1A) [Again!]
  6. Chemistry - 80 (1A) [Whew! What a relief!]
  7. History - 81 (1A) [Unexpected]
  8. EST - 90 (1A) [I thought I did badly.]
  9. Information Technology - 75 (2A) [Guess as much]

I did some statistical work, and calculating all the first eight marks (the ninth is not counted because it is not fixed yet), the mean of my marks is 86.375 and the standard deviation with the population parameter as n is 6.3267. I find this particularly interesting for some reason. The bigger my range of marks, the bigger the standard deviation.

So, any comments?

P/S: I think I can get a high mark for Physics but I have not much hope on Biology. *Groan*
