Nostalgia
Looking back into my later years of secondary school, there are many things that have already changed without my knowing. And there are also a lot of things which I have kept hidden from you for years already.
The main reason I started this blog was because I faced depression during my early life in Form 5. Thinking that I could handle the depression, I let it lasted for almost half a year, without the knowledge of most of my friends. Even though I started blogging due to depression, yet not much is said in my first few entries either. Well, what can you conclude about me (refer to my first entry here)?
The truth is this, that I had actually started blogging long ago, in fact at the end of December 2003. You can click here to find out if you want to. However, in those days, my blogging wasn't anything like this, where I use polished English and proper spellings (actually my first few entries in Egghead's Cracks didn't use much proper English either, but that has evolved, hasn't it?). Back in 2003 and 2004, I didn't blog about the current issues happening around the world. But all that has changed.
Blogging isn't so much about complaining about things happening around you. To me, it's a channel for me to express my thoughts and feelings about myself and matters that are happening around me. Blogging allows me to keep track of what I'd done long ago. In fact, sometimes when I read back my first few posts, I tend to laugh at myself and ponder about my narrow-mindedness in my earlier years. Well, as the saying goes, as a man sows, so shall he reap.
You might be wondering why didn't I keep blogging using my old blog? The reason was that I left my old blog too long already! I started blogging again only after about a year. So, why did I first abandon blogging at the first place? Well, the main reason was that I treated my first blog as my online diary, whereby I didn't care to publicise it either. It was meant for private viewing only. However, being a person who can't keep diaries, naturally I abandoned the blog until February of last year. You might ask why could I keep a blog for this long now after first starting Egghead's Cracks? Well, this time, when I started blogging again, I intended to make it more like a journal rather than a diary, discussing various issues that interest me.
However, another factor that encouraged me to continue blogging is the fact that I have readers who come here to read and share some of their thoughts. Though the number of readers may be very small, yet these are the ones who have contributed, in a way or another, to Egghead's Cracks.
For these few years of blogging, I can safely say that Egghead's Cracks has been a marvellous blogging experience for me, and I do intend to continue with this blog for many more years to come. Though my blog may never be as popular as Kenny Sia's or some other popular bloggers, nevertheless, its response isn't that bad after all, is it?
A lot of my friends have asked me to switch to Xanga, but I refused it because firstly, I already had experience of blogging with Blogger since 2003 and am totally comfortable with it and secondly it is also because I feel that I can personalise my blog according to my taste better. Somehow, I just doubt the user-friendliness of Xanga. Don't get me wrong though. I'm not reprimanding Xanga or degrading it in any way. For those who keeps a Xanga, great! You're comfortable with Xanga, so keep it up! I prefer Blogger, so each man to his or her own blog.
Some final words. I do encourage those who want to blog to start one of their own. Then, make sure that you keep updating your blog and get it publicise. It's good to promote your blog to your friends and relatives to get some publicity. Allow people to leave comments in your blog or in your Tag-board, if you have one. Visit other people's blogs and leave comments there so people will pay your blog a visit in return. Discuss whatever you like in your blog and allow people to respond.
At the first place, not many people will visit your blog. However, be patient and don't despair. Eventually, other people will start linking their blogs to you and you will have more readers. That is also if you are willing to have people to publicise your blog for you. If you prefer to keep your blog Private, then don't expect such a lot of visitors.
Farewell and goodbye for now!
