Speech Day 2006
Today, I went to school for the Speech Day ceremony. I was invited to school to accept the certificate for scoring Straight A's in my recent SPM examination. It was nice to walk down memory lane again. Something was amiss, though, yet I couldn't find out myself what it was.
Upon my arrival, I was welcomed by Mr. Peter Khiew (my Form 1 English teacher and discipline master for the afternoon session). We had a short chat; then came Mrs. Yee with a worried look. Why? "You've lost weight," she said. That was why she was worried. She feared that I have not been eating well and become under-nourished. Well, that is what I've frequently heard from my other friends, family and teachers, too, that I've lost weight. Indeed, I must admit that I have lost weight, but not because due to lack of meals, but rather because of excessive walking in campus.
This year, the Guest of Honour was Mr. See Thean Seng, AMP. Until today, I still treat him as if he were still my teacher and counsellor, instead of treating him as an EXCO member of Kuala Sepetang. Nevertheless, he is still the friendly Mr. See whom I know.
During the Speech Day ceremony, there was the usual performance by the Michaelian Chinese Orchestra. I am quite happy that they have chosen to play something different, after my continuous "complaints" about them not playing any other songs. They have chosen 小城故事 and another piece whose name I don't know. A wonderful change, for a start, but the second piece was not well-played. Some of the committee members of the MCO had come to ask for my opinion about their playing. I expressed my opinion and they accepted it graciously, much to my satisfaction.
After the ceremony, I took a few shots of the camera with my friends and with some of the teachers and the Guest of Honour himself. Though the ceremony was quite short and rather uneventful, it's meaningful enough for me. It could be my final time to attend a Speech Day ceremony.
Tomorrow, I'll get the pictures developed so that I may complete my work on my experience in Beijing. The text has yet to be completed. Please be patient.
