UTP Sixth Convocation Ceremony 2006
Should I be overjoyed about the sixth UTP Convocation Ceremony? After all, I'm not graduating my Foundation studies yet, nor am I a distinguished guest of the Convocation (also known as Convofair). However, I am rather happy that I am part of the performance group who will be performing during the Convofair in the presence of the former prime minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the Chancellor of UTP.
It isn't that I am happy to be able to meet Tun Dr. Mahathir. It is also that I am able to make use of the knowledge that I learnt since Form 1 in the Michaelian Chinese Orchestra. UTP now has its own Chinese Orchestra and I am proud to be able to join their team and be able to help develop the group.
For the past few weeks, we have been practising for the Convofair. Normally, we would begin at around 8.00 p.m. and finish at around 10.00 p.m. But as Convofair draws nearer, the pressure is felt and practice hours become much longer. Today, believe it or not, I was at the Multi-Purpose Hall for seven hours starting from 5.00 p.m. to 12.00 midnight, practising.
Yeah, I know that many would say I've been wasting too much time. Seven hours! I could do a lot fo revision and have discussions or even do some light reading. However, thankfully, this is the first and final time that we will have a seven-hour practice. There will only be four hours of practice tomorrow and no more, because the Convofair begins on Saturday and ends officially on Sunday. Next week onwards, I shall be only occupied with assignments, as usual.
In an unrelated matter, I have been elected as the Head for the IT or Media Department (I'm not sure which section yet) for a Drama competition that will be held on the 1st of November and 8th of November this year. During the last semester, my English lecturer wanted to have the Drama competition but it didn't work out. This semester, she is determined to make it a success and therefore has purposely picked me to head one of the departments; I have experience in drama, remember (why must this sentence remind me of someone in school, whom I'd mentioned before in my Annual School Drama post, who still doesn't portray a good impression to me?)?
Well, looks like this semester will be a busy one for me. I see no time for me at all. I'd better make use of the time now to go and have my sleep!
